There are a number of youth clubs in our area and they all provide an invaluable environment for children and young people to socialise with their peers in a safe and structured way. I’ve listed a selection below.
This is a youth group run by Barnardos in Abingdon at The Net on a Wednesday evening from 7 – 9 pm term time only. The age range is from 11 – 18 years and costs £4 per week depending on the activity. The club is always very popular and there is often a waiting list. The registration process can take some time so it is always sensible to get your name down especially if you think you may be interested in attending after Easter.
This is a youth group based in Didcot at The Vibe. They run 2 separate groups on a Tuesday term time only. The first group is from 4.15 – 5.45 pm and is for the age range 11 – 16. The second group is from 6 – 7.30 pm and is for the over 16’s. The cost is £1 per week which is paid termly in advance. Currently they have vacancies in both groups so if you are interested please contact me.
This is a social club based at Fitzwaryn School in Wantage on a Monday evening term time only, from 7.30 – 9.30 pm. The cost is £1 per week. They cater for a very wide age range, from 14 up to 70. This club would ideally suit someone in their older teenage years.
This is a social club for adults (18 +) with learning difficulties and is based in various locations in Didcot on a Monday evening from 7.30 – 9 pm. There is an annual membership cost of £10 and then a weekly fee of £2. They have a rolling 4 weekly programme which includes a disco, bingo and karaoke. The club is staffed wholly by volunteers and does ask that parents or carers stay to provide the necessary support for the adults they are taking.
Parasol is based in Oxford and is fully inclusive. It provides some activities during the week for various age groups as well as others in the holiday. Costs vary from £2 - £10 depending on the activity and the age range is from 5 – 19 years though the youth clubs are for the 13-19 year olds.
This is a fully integrated sports centre that provides a wide range of activities for children and young people with disabilities. They run a very successful, busy youth club on a Friday evening from 6 – 9 pm for ages 8 – 18 years. It costs £2 per session. They are based near the John Radcliff hospital.
KEEN Teens is based in the St Clements Family Centre just off the Cowley Road in Oxford and runs on a Friday evening during the Oxford University term time. This is a social club for young people aged 11 – 19 that provides a safe and structured opportunity to socialise and try new activities who are supported by Oxford University Student volunteers. The cost is free.
The young people then have an opportunity to move into the over 18 social club called GrEAT which meets on a Monday evening.

SEN Basketball - Oxford
If you are between the ages of 10-12 and like basketball, Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre in Blackbird Leys Oxford are looking to establish a basketball club on a Wednesday afternoon from 4 – 5 pm. All abilities will be welcome with a coach on hand to provide training advice and support for participants.
Initially the course will be £34.80 for parental slice card holders or £64.80 for those without, for a 12 week term from 1st June – 17th August. Funding may be available to help with the cost of these fees.
Active8 multi sports - Abingdon
This is a disability multi sports club which runs on a Monday from 4.45 – 5.45 at the gym at Larkmead school in Abingdon term time only. Lucy the coach has lots of experience of working with pails who have disabilities and does a wide variety of sports.
The age range is from 8 – 18 (though there is some flexibility on the younger age), and the cost is £2 per session.
Active8 Trampolining – Wantage
The club runs from 5 – 6 pm on a Tuesday term time only in the gym of King Alfred’s School East Site in Wantage and once again the age range is from 8 – 18 (though there is some flexibility on the younger age). The cost is £3 per session.
This club has 3 fully qualified coaches and using 3 trampolines each week giving everyone plenty of opportunity to ‘have a go’ and not having to sit around and watch for long.
KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) - various locations in Oxford
KEEN is an Oxford based charity which runs 4 different sessions per week, during the Oxford University term times. The sessions range from arts and crafts (Zig Zag) and youth groups (KEEN Teens and GrEAT) to sports sessions on a Saturday (Allsorts).
