Provider Additional Information:kidsUniverse Montessori & Day Nursery is situated in an old Victorian House. The Montessori follows the Montessori and Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and the philosophy runs through the whole nursery and influences the way we teach.
We aim to provide a calm, happy and safe atmosphere, thus giving the child confidence to explore the environment and its own capabilities. In our Montessori environment children have the freedom to make their own, spontaneous choices, they are independent within the environment, they are encouraged to complete cycles of work, they are helped to develop a sense of responsibility.
The practitioners show warmth, a positive attitude, dedication, patience, enthusiasm, fairness, a sense of humor, openness and humility. The practitioner shows respect and love for the child as a person. We respect a child’s personality and need for solitude or sociability just as we would a grown up’s and we protect a child’s concentration. There are reasonable established boundaries, which give the child a sense of security and fairness.
Learning takes place in an atmosphere of concentration. The children use the Montessori Apparatus all the time as well as some other educational aids, if they fit into the Montessori Philosophy. There is a lot of freedom within the structured environment, and the children are learning to make their own decisions and are given responsibilities. The work of preparation for big school within the nursery is of great importance. The needs of 3 months and 3 year olds are different from 3 and 4 year old children and are met with a free, but carefully structured environment. Language and Numeracy is taught within the Montessori framework and the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, children will have a good idea of how numbers work and they learn to express themselves well and contribute to a conversation. Also important are the practical life exercises, such as polishing wood, preparing vegetables, chopping carrots, putting on your own coat, shoes etc.
