Service Description:Wax Lyrickal is s community music project founded by the musician, vocalist and beatboxer Lyrickal with the aim of empowering children aged 5+ and young people to express themselves through music. We are most experienced at working in the following issues; bullying prevention (including disablist, sexist, racist and homophobic bullying), violence prevention, drugs awareness and prevention (including tobacco), community cohesion, disability awareness, sexual health, awareness of the risks of gang involvement and carrying weapons. We have some experience of working with adults and children with learning disabilities and extensive experience of working with young offenders and children and young people who exhibit challenging behaviour. Lyrickal is partially sighted and has 1st hand experience of disablist bullying and other issues relating to being partially sighted. Lyrickal is pleased to consider using musical skills to help with any issue where young people need to express their feelings but find it difficult to do so. We find that involvement in music, especially rap and human beatbox, is a fun activity that young people enjoy very much and that engages their enthusiasm in a way that non-musical activities often fail to do. Usually our workshops aim to involve children and young people in the creation of their own acapella songs themed on a particual issue, e.g. bullying prevention. The children perform the song at the end of the workshop, we record it, Lyrickal optimises the sound in his studio and then sends a copy to the purchasing organisation for them to distribute to the young people. The end result is that the young people have their own song/s containing their own thoughts and feelings that they can play back, but also, if they wish, perform and continue to develop over time. Because the performances are acappella (no musical instruments are involved, only the human voice) the young people can perform anywhere at no cost, as singing and beatboxing are free!
